MPHRC demands punishment against CRPF

Shillong, Dec 11 (UNI) The Meghalaya People's Human Rights Council (MPHRC) today demanded immediate action against CRPF personnel for allegedly beating up five pedestrians, including a pregnant woman.

The incident occurred at Motphran near here last night where the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) officials along with police had launched an eviction drive against hawkers under the supervision of Additional District Magistrate.

The hawkers thus protested the drive resulting no a skirmish with the police.

Meanwhile, some CRPF personnel on patrol arrived at the spot and without investigating fact resorted to lathicharge thus injuring some five people, including a pregnant woman.

All the injured were taken to Hospital, the MPHRC stated.
