J'khand HC asks Centre to file affidavit on power enhancement

Ranchi, Dec 11 (UNI) Jharkhand High Court today directed the Centre to file a counter affidavit by January 7, 2008, in connection with the power enhancement issue in Jharkhand.

A division bench, comprising Justices Muthuswamy Karpagyavinayagam and D K Sinha passed the order, while hearing a writ petition filed by Madhusudan Mittal, a Jharkhand HC advocate.

The decision came after the Union Governemnt failed to file an affidavit as per the earlier order of the court, which was scheduled for today. They, today, pleaded before the court to grant them time to file the affidavit relating to the issue of power enhancement in the state.

Jharkhand State Electricity Board(JSEB) had filed an affidavit and informed the court that it was not receiving appropriate amount of power from the Tala(Hydel) project in Bhutan to fulfill its requirement. The JSEB pleaded that it was not getting sufficient amount of power as power production was being disrupted due to extreme cold.
