Infighting lead to Advani's nomination: PM

Vadodara, Dec 11: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the BJP's sudden decision to project Leader of the Opposition L K Advani as its Prime Ministerial candidate in the next general elections seemed to have been prompted by intra-party infighting.

Addressing a news conference here, Dr Singh said, ''It appears from newspaper reports that the central leadership of the party took the decision apprehending threat from (Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra) Modi after the Gujarat Assembly elections.'' Trying to play safe on the Advani issue, the Prime Minister said he had no knowledge about BJP's internal matters.

''Today, I read in newspapers that BJP leadership feel threatened by Modi for which they wanted to do the Tajposhi of the throne of Delhi before Gujarat polls.''
