Good quality Khadi products scarce in Manipur despite high demand

Imphal, Dec 11 (UNI) The demand for Khadi products in Manipur has been witnessing a rising trend among the politicians, socail activists as well as the general public of the state even though its quality was far below other textiles.

Consequently, the Khadi users in the state were being compelled to buy Khadi products from Delhi as the items available in the state did not meet the standards, a Khadi lover said.

''There are only five to six small Khadi outlets are not being able to meet the demand. The Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board has however been trying to promote Khadi by organising fairs every year,'' he said.

As part of the promotion campaign, a five-day district level Khadi Mela, comprising 30 Khadi stalls, was organised here yesterday at Japhou Bazar in the Chandel district headquarters, which received remarkable response from the buyers.

Chandel MLA Thangkholun Haokip said such fairs should be organised on a regular basis to meet the demand as well to promote Khadi products.
