Ex-LU student union general secretary, aide shot dead

Lucknow, Dec 11 (UNI) Former Lucknow University (LU) student union general secretary and his aide were shot dead by armed assailants in posh Gomti Nagar area here yesterday, people said today.

Vinod Tripathi, former LU student union general secretary, was having a walk after dinner along with his aides Gaurav Singh and Hemant outside Nehru Enclave late night, when two motorcycle-borne men targetted them.

While Vinod and Gaurav suffered critical bullet wounds, the other had a narrow escape.

The duo was rushed to a private hospital, where they were declared brought dead, the police said.

The reason behind the murder, however, was yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, IG A K Jain and other senior police officials surveyed the murder spot this morning.

A manhunt had been launched to nab the absconding killers and Hemant was being questioned.
