Election dept begins reissuing EPICS

Barrackpore, Dec 11: The West Bengal Election department (ED) began reissuing Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) for about 1.6 lakh voters of 18 centres in 11 Assembly segments in the Barrackpore sub-division of North 24 Parganas.

About 8.5 lakh EPICS were issued earlier on the basis of draft electoral roll published in this sub-division ware found errartic.

The Election department sources said voters of that area had complained about errors in EPICs.

State Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Sen had rejected the EPICs during his visit here recetnly.

Official sources said even many EPICs were found without signature of the issuing authority as well as Election Commission's hologram.

SDO Jyotishman Chattopadhyay said here that the concerned agency which had prepared the cards earlier, would re-issue the same to the voters of 18 centres under 11 constituencies after due correction and snapping fresh photographs against rejected cards. Such correction will be made till December 20, the SDO said.

Besides, the electors bearing any erratic cards should get their cards corrected from the SDO office here.
