Cong to face Gujarat elections courageously
Puducherry, Dec 11 (UNI) The Congress will neither be frightened nor be affected by the BJP announcing L K Advani as it's prime ministerial candidate and will face the elections courageously, AICC General Secretary V Narayanasamy today said.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the Congress had taken almost all the BJP leaders in the election arena for the past 50 years. He expressed surprise at the announcement at a time when there was no possibility of an election.
Mr Narayanasamy, who is member of the high-level Committee, constituted by AICC President Sonia Gandhi for the Gujarat elections, claimed that the Congress was strong in rural Gujarat and will capture more seats in the election.
In urban areas, there will be a fight between Congress and BJP, he said, adding Narendra Modi's strategy of indulging religion in politics will not succeed in the elections, he charged.
Referring to JIPMER-2007 Bill withdrawn from the Rajya Sabha, he said it was being opposed for political reasons. By their Act, the BJP, CPM, AIADMK and Samajwadi Party had cheated the people of Union Territory and called upon them to reconsider their stance.
Mr Narayanasamy said there was a provision in the Bill to ensure security for the workers and they could opt to be government employees' or employees' of the Autonomous JIPMER Institution.
