Cold wave in Arunachal, minus two degrees recorded at Tawang

Itanagar, Dec 11 (UNI) A cold wave has been sweeping Arunachal Pradesh, accompanied by snowfall at many places which brought down the mercury level drastically throughout the state.

Local Met sources told UNI today the minimum temperature recorded at Tawang district during the past 24 hours was minus two degrees Celsius while Bomdila, the headquarters of West Kameng district, had been experiencing severe cold during the past couple of days.

Snowfall was also reported at some places in Tawang while the Sella Pass had been witnessing heavy snowfall since the past week, the sources added. Ziro, the headquarters of lower Subansiri district, had also been experiencing severe cold last week, followed by snowfall in the upper ridges of the Talley Valley. The mercury level dropped to below zero degrees Celsius in the district, the sources informed. Itanagar was also swept by the cold wave since the past couple of days.

Meanwhile, Mechuka under West Siang district experienced the season's first snowfall with the temperature ranging between zero to minus two degrees Celsius.

Mayudia, 52 kms from Roing, the headquarters of Lower Dibang district, had been witnessing the season's first snowfall for the past three days, causing the mercury level to drop below zero degrees Celsius.

The Roing-Anini road and its adjoining areas also experienced mild snowfall during the past few days, the sources informed.
