BSF shoots down smuggler on Indo-Bangla border
Bangaon, Dec 11 (UNI) BSF has shot dead a smuggler in Angrail village under Gaighata police station near Indo-Bangla border in North 24 Parganas, while trying to smuggle cattle into the neighbouring country.
Police said that Border Security Forces opened fire on cattle smugglers and shot dead a person believed to be a smuggler.
The incident irked the local residents, who sat on an hour-long demonstration on the Ramnagar Road near the border today. Later the BSF resorted to lathicharge on the demonstrating people to remove the blockade.
Frequent shootouts have, however, caused concern for the district administration in this area, where at least six people, mostly Bangladeshis, were killed last month. District administration have decided to speak to the BSF authorities in this respect soon, official sources said.
