Mandi, Dec 11 (UNI) Union Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today said the BJP's announcement on senior party leaders L K Advani and Prem Kumar Dhumal as prime minister and chief minister in waiting have sent a wrong signal to the people.

Addressing a public meeting here following cancellation of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi proposed rally here, he said it was the public that can make any leader a ''chief minister or a prime minister''.

Terming Mr Advani's tenure in the Home Ministery as a ''complete failure'', he said it was only during his tenure that there was an attack on Parliament and Kandahar plane hijack incident, wherein a senior cabinet minister accompanied hardcore terrorists to Afghanisatan to secure the hostages release.

''Anybody can imagine what kind of prime minister Mr Advani will be when he has not been able to handle sensitive issues being a Home Minister,'' he added.

Hitting out at the BJP's poll campaign in Himachal, Mr Sharma said the BJP was seeking votes for a change in the state.

Why should the people vote for a change in the state when they have already seen its ''failure'' during their last tenure?, he asked.

Reiterating his party's commitment for carrying out welfare schemes for the farmers of the country, he said the UPA Government at the centre had ensured overall development through various innovative schemes.

Senior Congress leaders, including Sukh Ram, Kaul Singh Thakur, Rangila Ram Rao and Pratibha Singh were also present on the occasion.
