'Students should strive to create new society'

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 10: Students should strive to create a new society by being educated, Communist Party of India Central Executive Committee member R Nallakannu said.

Speaking while winding up the three day celeberations of the 'Ambedkariyam', a cultural festival organised by the All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) here, he said students should know about Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution, his great contribution to the society and the country, and his fight against untouchability.

The thoughts and philosophy of Babasaheb Ambedkar were relevant even today in the backdrop of the prevailing caste problems in the country, he added.

The veteran communist said it was essential to protect the rights of the oppressed community in our welfare state. Ambedkar was a guide to all those who were fighting against caste system, he added.
