Maoists attack bus carrying CPI(M) supporters

West Medinipur, Dec 10 (UNI) Maoist guerrillas tonight attacked a bus carrying CPI(M) supporters back home from a meeting in this district of West Bengal.

District Magistrate Narayan Swarup Nigam said the Maoists fired and hurled bombs at the bus while it was negotiating a bend at Kathapahari forest under Lalgarh block, a bastion of the ultras. The bus under the impact of the bombing fell on a side, he said.

He, however, could not give any figure of injury or casualty immediately.

The CPI(M) supporters were returing home after attending party's district committee meeting at Kalaikunda where West Bengal Chief Minister Buddadeb Bhattacharjee and Left Front chairman Biman Bose had addressed them.

Mr Nigam said a combing operation was on to trace the attackers.

Lalgarh is a den of Maoist activity for last four years where at least ten CPI(M) leaders were murdered by the outlaws.
