Italy keen on more business partnership with India

Kolkata, Dec 10 (UNI) Tata Motors' small cars would roll out from Singur factory by mid-2008, said West Bengal's Commerce and Industries Principal Secretary Sabyasachi Sen today.

" Tata Motors has planned to roll out its first ever small segment car from Singur factory by 2008, " Dr Sen said while addressing an Indo-Italian workshop on Technological Cooperation and Investment, sponsored by Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce.

Dr Sen also offered land and other facilities to the visiting industrialists from Italy.

About 35 members comprising businessmen, industrialists and academics were in India to explore possibilites of new business plans both in home and India.

The delegation was led by Mr Mauro Battocchi, Head of the division for Trade and Investment Support, Department of Economic Affaris, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rome.

Dr Sen said, " Bengal posess huge potential for both big and small and medium businesses, particularly in jewelleries, leather, food processing and alied products. " General Consul of Italy in Kolkata Bruno Campria said Italy was keen on furthering business partnership with India in manufacturing units, a forte of Italy.

An MOU was singed last February between the Italian Trade Commission, the Council for Leather Exports and Assomac of Italy, for setting up a tanning training and serivce centre in Kolkata.

The project was cofinanced by the Italian Trade Commission and the Union Government.
