1984 riot: Rs 17.58 lakh distributed to 35 affected families

Lucknow, Dec 10 (UNI) Following the directions of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, compensation cheques, amounting to Rs 17.58 lakh, have been distributed under a drive to the 1984 riot affected 35 Sikh families in Kanpur.

District Magistrate (Kanpur) Alok Kumar informed '' formalities for the grant of financial support, amounting to over Rs 1.67 lakh to the 18 affected families here, was also underway.'' To quicken the disbursal of compensation, nine teams of the respective area's magistrate was being set up, he added.

On December 6, the CM had directed for immediate disbursal of compensation to the 1984 riot affected Sikh families by initating a drive.

Besides, she had directed the completion of all the necessary procedural formalities within a month.
