Mandi, Dec 9 (UNI) Former union minister and BJP's national vice president Shanta Kumar today cautioned people against casting their votes for the Congress, saying the party that did not believe price rise was an issue was not likely to do check prices of essential commodities after coming to power.

Talking to mediapersons at Sundernagar in the district, he said the prices of essential commodities would not be controlled by the Congress, if voted to power, whose leaders had time and again refused to accept that this was an election issue.

Mr Kumar said since the Congress was not likely to initiate any steps in reigning in the prices of essential commodities, the people should not cast their votes to it.

''If the Congress is voted to power, prices of essential commodities will not come down,'' he asserted.

The BJP leader reminded the people that the NDA Government led by the BJP had managed to keep the prices of food items down despite several constraints.

Terming widespread corruption during the tenure of the present UPA Government, he said only a CBI investigation could solve the mystery of first exporting foodgrains and then importing them at double the price.

In both the exercise, the corrupt elements minted money while plundering the public exchequer, he added.

Mr Kumar also lamented at the government's half-hearted attempt of raising the support price for wheat well after the agricultural produce had been sold to the middlemen at throwaway prices.
