Ahmedabad, Dec 9 (UNI) Hundreds of RSS workers fanned out across Gujarat to support and ensure the victory of BJP in the Assembly elections, which has for the first time debated the core issue of terrorism at state-level.

While no one knows the exact number of workers in the field, a senior BJP leader admitted that more than 1,000 hard-core workers are already operating in the designated areas for BJP candidates.

The RSS leadership in the state was angry with Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his acts during the past five years. The organisation had supported Mr Modi in the 2002 elections and ensured victory on 127 seats.

Senior RSS workers are in the process of contacting all those people, who have been going to ''Shakhas'' (morning meetings) in the past and working on booth to booth basis.

''The strategy is to ensure that more and more supporters of BJP should reach on the polling day at the booths and cast vote in favour of BJP candidates,'' a RSS worker, who came from northern region said.

Most of the RSS workers have come either from North India or neighbouring states to work with local BJP supporters.

The RSS, which was earlier avoiding to support Mr Modi, came to the rescue of BJP as it felt that BJP might fall short of few seats than simple majority.

The RSS has criticised Congress President Sonia Gandhi for resorting to 'wildest possible vituperations' against Mr Modi and his development plank to hide UPA Government's poor record in checking price rise and terror attacks.

The organisation further stated that Ms Gandhi resorted to cheap tricks to make baseless allegations and pretended that the exhumation of the 2002 riots ghost would make up for a cohesive poll strategy.

It said the party, which failed to apprehend even a single terrorist in eleven terror attacks on the country, was promising to prosecute Modi if voted to power.

''How ridiculous, that Ms Gandhi is charging the Gujarat Government, which provided the most peaceful rule for the last five years, as 'merchants of death', when there was not an instance of a single terrorist attack,'' the RSS said.
