Hosts restricts Saurashtra to 229 for 8

Mysore, Dec 9 (UNI) Hosts Karnataka restricted visiting Saurashtra for 229 for 8 on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' being played at Gangothri Glades here today.

Karnataka Skipper Yeregouda, who had won the toss chose to bowl first and his decision proved right when upcoming speedster R Vinaya Kumar scalped opener Sagar Jogyani for a duck in his very first over he bowled.

It was a memorable day for Karnataka's fast bowler R Vinayakumar who took five wickets today and completed his tally of 100 wickets in Ranji cricket in just 30 matchs he played so far.

Hosts were in full control of the play except for a brief period when Kanaiya Vagale who made 37 useful runs and Cheteshwar Pujara who scored 48 added 62 runs for the sixth wicket partnership.

Saurashtra captain Jayadev Shah (34) and Rakesh Dhruve (34) helped to cross 200 and Kamalesh and Sanjeep Jobanpura were at the crease with after scoring 9 and 17 respectively at stumps.

While pace bowler N C Ayyappa got 2 wickets veteran Spinner Sunil Joshi got one wicket.
