Gujjars express concern over delay in the execution of agreement

Jaipur, Dec 9 (UNI) The Gujjar Arakshan Sangarh Samiti has expressed concern over the delay in the execution of the agreement reached between the Government and the Samiti on the inclusion of Gujjars in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.

The samiti, at its emergency executive meeting held here under the chairmanship of Col Kirori Singh Bainsla, had decided to take up the matter with State Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the fruitful meeting Col Bainsla had with Haryana and Delhi Chief Ministers over the issue of the withdrawal of cases against the community members during the june agitation and had also decided to take up the issue with UP Chief Minister Mayawati.

At a resolution passed at the meeting, the executive asked the government to get the Chopra Committee report to study their demand at the earliest and sent a recommendation to the centre favouring Gujjars' inclusion in the ST list.

Gujjars expressed their unhappiness over the threat and intimidation by the Meena community over its demand and said the reservation is a contitutional provision intended for the uplift of the backward and was not the monopoly of any community. It said the Meenas Oppositon to their demand was ''undemocratic and uncalled for''.
