Jaipur, Dec 9 (UNI) Congress General Secretary and former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot termed the BJP rally, organised here yesterday coinciding the fourth anniversary of the party government in the state, as a ''government sponsored event rather than of the party''.

Mr Gehlot, in a statement, alleged that the government mechinary was misused to moblise people for the rally, which had happened never before in the history of the state. He said private bus operators were coerced to bring people to Jaipur without even paying their rents.

Mr Gehlot said Chief Minister Vasandhara Raje while keeping silence on the issues of the farmers, had made some popular announcements even before a year to the Assembly elections to mislead the general public. However, he said such histrionics were no longer saleable to the people as the government had exposed itself during the past four years in power.

The former chief minister said Ms Raje had not yet replied to the charge by a senior party functionary in the presence of party president Rajnath Singh of amassing wealth worth Rs 5000 crore by corrupt practices during her chief ministership. Besides, Ms Raje had not come clean on the rumour of purchasing a house in London.

Mr Gehlot also demanded a clarification from Ms Raje of misleading the general public with an award by some organisation as United Nations award and demanded an apology to the people and deposit the expenses incured during the travel to the treasury.
