Shimla, Dec 9 (UNI) The Congress today defended Union Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma's statement equating the BJP with Mahatma Gandhi's assassin, Nathu Ram Godse, saying it had never condemned the murderers of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing a press conference here, party's state general secretary Kuldeep Singh Rathore said its election campaign both in Himachal and Gujarat was proved its ''communal vision''.

He said the BJP was trying to mislead the people on the issue of demanding derecognizing of the Congress party. ''If there is any party which needs to be debarred then it is BJP, especially their leader Narendra Modi.'' Responding to BJP vice president Muktar Abbas Naqvi defending Mr Modi's actions, the Congress leader said he should be praying at some ''dargah'' to wash Gujarat CM's sin rather than defending him.

Mr Rathore derided the BJP's claim of being a popular party by saying that whenever the party has come to power in the state, it has adopted and an anti-farmer and anti-employee stance.
