Barnala lauds HRC for promoting human rights in TN

Chennai, Dec 9 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today lauded the State Human Rights Commission in its efforts to promote human rights and repose faith and trust of the people in the state.

In his message on the eve of International Human Rights Day, Mr Barnala said the Indian Constitution guarantees every individual, irrespective of caste, creed and community, the right to liberty, equality and dignity.

The efforts initiated by the State Human Rights Commission to spread literacy and promotion of human rights were commendable, the Governor said.

''It is a matter of great pride for the state government to be one among the few states to have constituted the State Human Rights Commission as early as in 1997,'' he added.
