An undertrial kills another at Howrah general hospital

Howrah, Dec 9 (UNI) An undertrial killed another prisoner in the prisoners' ward in the district's general hospital today.

Police said the victim was an undertrial prisoner, who had been in the prisoners' ward for some time now and the assailant was brought in yesterday by the Gaurd of Railway Police.

Howrah SP Neeraj Kumar Singh and hospital sources have confirmed that the assailant was not mentally stable and was supposed to have been admitted to the emergency ward.

However, due to some reason, the "killer" had been admitted to the prisoners' ward, where he attacked the victim with an iron rod.

A case has been filed to investigate into the murder of the undertrial in the hospital, Mr Singh said and added that yet another case was filed for determining whether there was any negligence on the part of the hospital authorities in ensuring that the assailant was admitted to the emergency ward as intended.
