Over 17,000 duplicate voters identified in Rajkot district
Rajkot, Dec 8 (UNI) On the eve of the Gujarat assembly elections, authorities have detected a little over 17,000 voters whose names figure in more than one list in this district.
The list of the duplicate voters have been sent to returning officers of the respective booths to avoid bogus voting. The Election Commission has also directed the deletion of 4,787 duplicate voters and the election officer has updated the electrol list accordingly.
The maximum number of duplicate voters (4311) were detected in Rajkot-rural constituency, while minimum number of duplicate voters (540) were detected in the Tankara constituency.
The Election Commission has installed specially-developed computer software to identify duplicate voters.
The duplicate voters found from the respective constituencies are as fllows: Wankaner - 2910, Rajkot-l constituency - 1995, Morbi - 1398, Tankara - 540, Jasdan - 1542, Rajkot-ll constituency - 901, Rajkot rural- 4311, Gondal - 646, Jetpur - 1533, Dhoraji - 569 and Upleta - 691.
