North Goa Dist Magistrate imposes Sec 144 of CrPC at IT Habitat

Panaji, Dec 8 (UNI) North Goa District Magistrate R Mihir Vardhan today enforced Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) with a view to restrain the public from gathering in and around IT Habitat at Dona Paula.

The order will become effective from midnight tonight till tomorrow midnight.

The move came in view of a rally, being organised by the villagers of Taleigao, tomorrow from Church square Taleigao Oityant to IT Habitat Park, Dona Paula. The rally will start in the morning at 1000 hrs and end at 1500 hrs.

Mr Vardhan, in his order, stated as a large crowd is expected to take part in the rally. It is feared that there may be law and order problems on account of the conduct of the rally, as it is a fact that there were incidents of violence and arson witnessed on December 6 at IT Habitat.

The proposed rally may cause breach of public peace and tranquility and this order is directed and requires immediate preventive measures. Any person contravening the order shall be punishable under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), he added.
