Miscreants snatch weapons from police and looted Rs 18 lakh
Shillong, Dec 8 (UNI) Armed miscreants today disarmed two policemen in Meghalaya after looting over Rs 18 lakh from coal-laden trucks and bus passenegers, police said.
The incident occurred at around 0730 hours at a place between Songsak and Songkhama in East Garo Hills district, when six miscreants, armed with AK-47 and 56 rifles, opened fire at vehicles, ferrying Sub Inspector M L Barman and constable F Shira and later snacthed away their pistol and Carbine at gun point, Superintendent of Police S Nongtynger told UNI.
Both the policemen were proceeding to district headquarters in Williamnagar from Dagal area.
Mr Nontynger said soon after snatching the arms, the miscreants then hijacked a vehicle and later abandoned it before making good their escape into the Songsak reserve forest.
The SP said that the armed miscreants were involved in looting from coal-laden trucks and bus passenegers before the snatching the weapons of police personnel.
