Militant killed, major tragedy averted in J

Srinagar, Dec 8 (UNI) Security forces shot dead a militant and averted a major tragedy while a released Hizbul Mujahideen ultra was apprehended in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, an official spokesman said today.

He said security forces shot dead a militant during a gunfight at Dalpathri Checknar in Ajas area of Ganderbal district last night.

The gun-battle erupted after a search party was attacked by militants, the spokesman said, adding one AK rifle, two magazines and a hand grenade were seized from the encounter site.

Police apprehended a released Hizb militant at Yetch-Gooz Kellar in Rajpora area of Pulwama district last evening.

Security forces averted a major tragedy when they seized a radio set fitted with a powerful Improvised Explosive Device from the bushes at Mohalla Sheesh Mahal in border district of Poonch today.

Later, the IED was defused safely without causing any damage, the spokesman said.
