Haryana to provide financial assistance to 'Safai Karamcharis'

Chandigarh, Dec 8 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to provide financial assistance upto Rs three lakh to family members of 'Safai Karamcharis' for pursuing various professional and technical courses.

Announcing this here today, Haryana Social Welfare Minister Kartar Devi said under this scheme, loan of Rs 75,000 per annum at the rate of six per cent interest would be provided to those applicants who were permanent residents of the state.

The Minister informed that Haryana Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (HSFDC) in collaboration with National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) would provide education loan for pursuing various professional and technical courses from recognised colleges or institutions.

Ms Kartar Devi said in case of default in repayment of loan, penal interest at the rate of four per cent per annum in addition to normal rate of interest would be charged. Those loanees who pay the loan in time would be given one per cent rebate in the rate of interest at the time of payment of last installment.

She said the applicant should be member of Safai Karamcharis duly identified under the National Scheme for Liberation and Rehabilitation of Scavengers and their dependents (NSLRS) or all those who could not be covered under the survey already conducted in this regard provided they produce a certificate from local Revenue Officer or Executive Officer or Municipal Committee or Council or Corporation.

In case of Army Cantonment, the applicant should be verified by a gazetted officer of the Cantonment, she added.
