'Anti-farmer policies forcing peasants to commit suicide'
Jaunpur, Dec 8 (UNI) Flaying the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the Centre and ruling Bhaujan Samaj Party (BSP) government in Uttar Pradesh, BJP Kisan Morcha today alleged that ''anti-farmer'' policies of the two regimes were forcing the peasants to commit suicide.
''Farmers in the drought-hit districts are already reeling under huge debts...non-payment of sugarcane dues has added to their woes,'' Morcha president Vinod Pandey told reporters here.
Rabi season had already knocked the doors, but farmers were not getting fertilizers and seeds on time, he charged.
Firing a salvo at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, Mr Pandey alleged that goons and mafias were ruling the roost in the state,law and order had fallen to ground, and, fear, insecurity, rape and abduction were order of the day.
