Srinagar, Dec 7 (UNI) Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today urged the world community to use its influence for the peaceful resolution of the contentious Kashmir issue.

Addressing a Friday congregation at the grand Jamia mosque here, he said the settlement of the Kashmir issue would usher in peace in the South Asian region.

During his recent meetings with British parliamentarians in London, the Mirwaiz said he briefed them about the gross human rights violations being perpetrated allegedly by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Hurriyat chairman said he impressed upon them that it was the moral responsibility of the United Kingdom to play its due role for the settlement of the long-festering Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state.

The Mirwaiz urged the world community not to give an entry to India in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) until the Kashmir issue was resolved permanently.

The British parliamentarians fully support the inclusion of the Kashmiri leadership in the dialogue process between India and Pakistan, he added.

The Hurriyat chairman urged the Government of India to abandon its ''rigid and negative policy'' on the Kashmir issue and reciprocate Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's four-point formula for the resolution of the problem.

He expressed concern over the increase in the alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
