Woman arrested for drowning her 2-month-old son

Vadodara, Gujarat, Dec 7 (UNI) A women was arrested, for allegedly drowning her two-month-old son boy in an underground water tank belonging to her neighbour, police sources said.

Police arrested Urvashi Gandhi (40) from her Mahakalinagar residence yesterday, four days after she committed the cold blooded murder of her ''mentally retarded'' child.

On December 3, Urvashi, who was serving as vice-principal of Ankur Vidyalaya set up by her husband Sanjay Gandhi in Padra town, had filed a complaint with the local police stating that her son, Ankur, had gone missing.

After a day-long search for the baby in and around the town, the body of Ankur was finally recovered from the six-foot deep underground water tank of their immediate neighbour, Kamlesh Prajapati.

According to investigating officer J B Solanki, Urvashi has confessed her crime during interrogation stating that she wanted to get rid of her ''mentally retarded'' son.

A Padra court yesterday remanded the mother to judcial custody after recording her confessional statement.
