Vajra Corps celebrates Armed Forces Flag Day

Jalandhar, Dec 7 (UNI) Vajra Corps and the District Sainik Welfare Board jointly organised the Armed Forces' Flag Day at Punjab State War Memorial here today.

Vajra Corps General Officer Commanding Lt Gen SS Kumar, who was the chief guest on this solemn occasion, laid wreath at the War Memorial and paid homage to the war heroes of Punjab on this occasion.

While addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Kumar recalled the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers of Punjab in the service of the Nation.

"History will always remember the martyrs of Punjab and their contribution in ensuring freedom and security of the Nation," he said.

He made a fervent appeal to all, to contribute generously on the occasion, as their contribution would go a long way in mitigating the hardships faced by widows of the war heroes of the state.

He further said that the contribution made to the Flag Day Fund were utilised by the Sainik Boards for empowerment of widows, disabled soldiers, Ex-servicemen and their dependents.

The chief guest and others also visited 'Hall of Fame', Kargil Gallery and War Library.

Deputy Commissioner and Zila Sainik Welfare Board president Ajit Singh Pannu, Zila Sainik Board vice president Brig KS Dhillon, serving and retired Army officers, civil dignitaries, ex-servicemen, widows of martyrs and others also attended the function.

Earlier, the programme was started with a devotional song by students of BD Arya College for girls. The function was held with full military honours. Girl students pinned sticker flags to the chief guest and others.
