UGC Chairman to be felicitated in Chennai

Chennai, Dec 7: University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Sukhadeo Thorat will be felicitated by Puthiya Tamizhagam, a political party in Tamil Nadu, here on December 19.

Talking to newspersons here, Puthiya Tamizhagam President K Krishnasamy said Mr Thorat had contributed immensely to the education sector by empowering students of backward classes across the country.

He pointed out that the UGC Chairman was instrumental in bringing in the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship Scheme, enabling poor students to pursue higher education.

Mr Krishnasamy said many high profile personalities and associations, including Vice-Chancellors of various varsities and education bureaucrats, members of Higher Education Protection Federation and Advocate Association for Social Justice will attend the felicitation function.
