Prof Rao urges government to give freedom to scientists

Bangalore, Dec 7 (UNI) Chairman of the Science Advisory Council to the Prime Minister C N R Rao today urged the government to give a greater freedom to scientists and researchers to continue in their work to achieve economic growth for the country.

Prof Rao in his valedictory address at the Bangalore Nano 2007 here today said should follow the established models of developed nations and this would certainly help for setting up of better environment for the researchers to achieve the greater economic development of the nation.

He said that the government should give freedom to the scientists to continue their work while running private organisations.

"The Indian scientists can make any nanomaterials at any form required. We are still looking for technologies to assemble them to make devices commercially," he said.

There is a global need for nanomaterials at a fair scale, he said adding that India should be ideally catering to this global demand in the years to come.

"Money is not a problem for India but the development of manpower to promote the sunrise technology is," he said.

More than 500 students from enginneering and medical colleges from the city took part in the valedictory held today.
