Haflong, Dec 7 (UNI) The newly-elected members of the North Cachar Hills District Autonomous Council (NCHDAC) took the oath of office and secrecy at a function in the central hall of the Council here today.

All the 27 members of the Council were present during the oath taking ceremony as Deputy Commissioner Anil Kumar Barua administered the oath. State Governor Lt Gen (retd) Ajai Singh, who reached here later, also met the new members and congratulated them on their success.

The elections to the NCHDAC were held on November 26 and December 1 and the results were declared on December 4, with the incumbent Congress completely routed and BJP-ASDC combine coming to power.

Election in one constituency was countermanded following the killing of the Congress candidate by Dimasa militants.

The BJP-ASDC members are scheduled to meet after December 10 to elect the new Chief Executive Member (CEM). A 15-member committee will run the Council, headed by the CEM and a chairman and deputy chairman.
