Mizoram governor asks Centre for more rice quota
Aizawl, Dec 7 (UNI) Mizoram Governor Lt Gen (Rtd) M M Lakhera today discussed with the Prime Minister on the need for more rice quota for the state in a meeting at New Delhi.
The governor informed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the population explosion of rodents due to Mautam, massive bamboo flowering, in the state had led to the destruction the paddy.
Requesting the Prime Minister to sanction additional rice quota to Mizoram, Lt Lakhera also urged grants for procurement of the same.
Official sources quoting the governor stated here today that the Prime Minister had assured an additional rice quota for the state.
Dr Singh also reportedly ensured necessary steps for creation of separate IAS cadre for Mizoram.
