Meera terms BJP 'unprincipled' party

Mandi, Dec 7 (UNI) Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meera Kumar today termed the BJP as an ''unprincipled party'' for striking unholy alliance to come to power by any means.

Addressing a public meeting at Bangrohtu in the district, she said both the BSP and the BJP were known for their lip service for the Dalits without doing anything for them while in power.

Complimenting the Congress for always standing by the Dalits, Ms Kumar claimed it had initiated a number of welfare schemes from time to time.

Referring to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's economic package to the state, she said the Centre had decided to take up the work on the Bhanupali-Bilaspur railway line for which the funds had also been released.

The line would be completed in three to four years, she said, adding that the government would also consider a proposal to extend it to other parts of the state.

Another Congress leader Satpal Maharaj, addressing a rally at Nerva in Shimla district, said due to the consistent developmental works by the successive state Congress Governments, the state had emerged as a model of development for other states of the country.
