MDMK holds fast on Mullaiperiyar

Madurai, Dec 7 (UNI) More than 800 volunteers of Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) led by Party General Secretary Vaiko began a day-long fast to condemn the Kerala Government for its failure to honour Supreme Court verdict on Mullaiperiyar Dam row, near Head Post Office at Thallakulam in the city this morning.

The fast was also to condemn Central and Tamil Nadu Governments for their alleged failure to protect the interests of Tamil Nadu in the Mullaiperiyar Dam issue.

The fast was inaugurated by All India Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam (AIMMK) Founder-President N Sethuraman.

In his address, Dr Sethuraman criticised the Centre for not coming forward to impress upon the Kerala Government to honour the Apex Court verdict. He also blamed the Tamil Nadu Government for not taking suitable action in this regard.

Tight security arrangements have been made by the police around Thallakulam Area in view of the fast.
