India to be country in focus at Animation Film festival in France

New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) India will be the country of focus at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, which is the world's biggest such festival.

The event will be held from June nine to 14 in the French town of Annecy. Alongside the festival, a market will also be organised from June 11 to 13.

There will be special programmes, premieres and numerous other events relating to animation India.

The market will be setting up an Indian pavilion giving industry visitors from all over the world an opportunity to find out about artistic techniques and production from the country, which is the largest producer of films in the world.

According to an ASSOCHAM study, animation and video games were emerging segments in India and revenues from the animation sector was forecast to have increased from Rs 2,200 million to nearly Rs 4,400 million by the end of current year.

The festival was first held in 1960, and takes place at the beginning of June.

Initially it was held every two years, but became an annual affair from 1998. It is one of the four international animated film festivals sponsored by the Association d'International du Film d'Animation (or ASIFA, the International Animated Film Association).
