New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) Petroleum Minister Murli Deora today assured Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (Retd) B C Khanduri to undertake immediate review of the complaints regarding LPG shortages/backlog in certain areas of the state.

In a meeting held here, he said his Ministry would ensure speedy clearance of any backlog/arrears in supply of domestic LPG caused due to various factors, an official statement said.

Mr Deora asked senior officers of the Ministry to review the LPG supply position in Uttarakhand on an urgent basis as any shortage would cause hardships due to the inclement weather during winter.

Regarding the request of Uttarakhand government for enhancing kerosene allocation, Mr Deora said the allocation of kerosene for distribution through PDS network has not been revised since 2004 even though the number of LPG connections have increased significantly.

He urged the Chief Minister to extend his support for the proposal of his Ministry for launching 'smart card scheme' as a pilot project in a district of the state to ensure supply to the intended/targeted beneficiaries.

The Chief Minister said he would examine the issue immediately.

He assured to extend his fullest cooperation towards Petroleum Ministry's drive to eliminate diversion of subsidised products for unintended use.
