Hyderabad, Dec 7 (UNI) Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases today sentenced former Prohibition and Excise Inspector of Penukonda R Jagadeeswara Reddy to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year and imposed fine of Rs 2,000 for offence punishable under section seven of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The judge ordered that if the accused defaults in paying the fine, he would have to undergo six months simple imprisonment.

The judge also sentenced him to one-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 for the offences under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The accused would have to undergo six months simple imprisonment, if he fails to pay the fine.

Mr Reddy was trapped by the ACB officials in April, 2002, when he accepted a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a salesman of a wine shop in Anantapur district for doing official favour of not booking a case against the wine shop, a press release said here.

Meanwhile, the Government had ordered a permanent cut of 25 per cent from the pension of retired Executive Engineer B Jayarami, following a trap case by ACB.
