Court sends drug peddler behind bars for three years

Moga, Dec 7 (UNI) A local court has convicted and sentenced a drug peddler under NDPS Act to three years of rigorous imprisonment for possessing opium.

The prosecution alleged that the Moga CIA police nabbed the accused Harjinder Singh, a resident of Bgagta Bhai Ka, during a police naka near Sekha Kalan village on May 19, 2006 and on search of his person one kg of contraband opium was recovered from his possession.

After going through the evidence and arguments yesterday, additional sessions judge B S Sandhu pronounced the jail term and a fine of Rs 5000 for the accused. In default of payment of fine, he will further undergo an imprisonment of three months RI, the court said.
