Biggest haul of banned and expired medicines in Moga

Moga, Dec 7 (UNI) Five police teams conducted raids at chemists shops here and seized medicines worth Rs 20 lakh, the biggest haul of its kind in recent times, police said today.

Moga SSP L K Yadav, who supervised the operation conducted last night, told newspersons today in the raids 7,84,044 tablets and injections of expired or psychotropic drugs were found.

A major part of the haul consisted of phenotil and microtil tablets, he said.

As per report of the drug inspectors, the SSP said that some of the chemists were running their shops without valid licences. Some even showed High Court's and Sessions Courts orders regarding staying of their arrests.

The five teams, consisting of ten drug inspectors from various parts of the state including Moga, Faridkot, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Ferozepur conducted similtaneous raids for about five hours.

The district police has registered cases under section 420 IPC against two chemists and under Drug and Cosmetic Act against all.
