Armed Forces Flag Day observed in Punjab, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Dec 7 (UNI) Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues today emphasised the need of creating an united front of ex-servicemen for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.

Gen Rodrigues was speaking after getting a flag by Principal Secretary, Defence Services Welfare, SS Channy and Punjab Sainik Welfare Director Brig I S Gakhal on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day here. The Governor made the first donation to the Flag Day Fund.

Speaking on the occasion, General Rodrigues asked the Principal Secretary to initiate the process of dialogue with different ex-servicemen groups for creating a single forum for the redressal of the problems of serving defence personnel and ex-servicemen and their families.

Gen Rodrigues said the Armed Forces Flag Day has been celebrated each year to honour the martyrs, to salute the veterans and to renew solidarity with Armed Forces personnel.

''By donating to the Flag Day Fund, the entire nation expresses its solidarity with our armed forces. The Flag Day collections are utilised for the welfare of serving soliders, ex-servicemen and their widows,'' he said.

On the occasion, General Rodrigues also released souvenir and booklet brought out by Departments of Sainik Welfare of Punjab and UT Chandigarh.
