8 Naval ships for 'display' on Dec 16

Chennai, Dec 7 (UNI) As many as eight naval ships, including two guided missile destroyers, five firing units of Khukri Class and an amphibious vessel along with integral helicopters, will be on display here on December 16.

Talking to newspersons here, Tamil Nadu Naval Officer Incharge Commodore P E Van Halteren, VSM, said the display was being organised as part of the Navy Week celebrations and would be an occasion for the people to witness navy's prowess from close quarters.

Three Kiran aircraft, part of the Sagar Pawan Aerobatics Team, would be kept on the Marina Beach for public view.

'Macros,' the special forces of the Indian Navy, would be demonstrating its skills in blowing up a mock up oil rig, off shore, close to the beach.

The Naval Band, which had given many a performace worldwide, will be participating in beating the retreat.

Illumination by naval ships at anchorage off the Marina would form the finale and can be viewed till 2300 hrs.
