188 pedestrians challaned in Delhi Police drive

New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) In the ongoing drive by the Delhi Police to book pedestrians for indulging in jaywalking, 188 people were booked today at six major intersections in the city, a Delhi Police spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said of the 188 people challaned, the maximum 56 were booked at the Moti Nagar Chowk, followed by 27 each on the busy Barakhamba Outer Circle and West Point Tilak Marg, 26 at ISBT crossing, 23 at the Delhi Gate and 16 at the Ashram Chowk crossing.

A total of 181 pedestrians were challaned yesterday under the new drive by the Delhi police to levy fines on pedestrians indulging in traffic violations, which began at the above six crossings on Wednesday.

The police drive is to be extended to the entire city in the coming days.

Besides, 300 vehicles, including those of the government and the embassies, were challaned for parking in no parking zones of Connaught Place area in the capital today.

The vehicles were challaned at four places of the area - Janpath, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Barakhamba Road and Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
