New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) Delhi Power Minister A K Walia today expressed his deep concern over ongoing power cuts in different parts of the city, especially theft-prone localities, causing undue hardship and extreme inconvenience to the honest consumers, who pay regularly for the power consumed by them.

Talking to reporters here, Dr Walia expressed surprise that no serious action has since been taken to stop unscheduled power cuts, which continue for prolonged hours.

Dr Walia said the Discoms would not be able to justify the modus operandi of power cuts in the case issue is taken up in any court by any honest power consumer.

He also stressed need of amendment in rules for installation of electric meters to enable the prospective consumers to get connection and Discoms to install electricity meters for recording power consumption so that the tendency to commit theft of electricity is contained.

The Discoms have been insisting for proof of legal occupation of the premises and asking for title of the property which is causing undue harassment to consumers and delay in sanctioning domestic electricity connections.

Dr Walia asked his department to come out with a more liberal policy in this regard. He also advocated installation of electricity meters with pre-paid cards, which would help in curbing power theft of electricity.
