UP mulls giving fertiliser subsidy to farmers

Lucknow, Dec 6 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government would talk to the Centre to provide fertiliser subsidy to the farmers instead of private companies, the state Assembly was informed today.

Making a reply during Question Hour, state agriculture minister Lakshmi Narain said, the state government would discuss the issue with Union Chemical and Fertilisers minister Ram Vilas Paswan during the proposed National Development Council meeting in New Delhi on December 19.

The minister said since 65 per cent of the fertiliser is distributed through private channels, the government would have to set up a new system to provide subsidy directly to the farmers instead of private companies.

The question was raised by Hukum Singh (BJP).
