SP members stage walkout over FIR against woman MLA

Lucknow, Dec 6(UNI) Members of the principal opposition Samajwadi Party today created a ruckus in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly over lodging of a criminal case against a woman MLA from Ghazipur.

The SP members rushed to the Well of the House raising anti-government slogans after the government refused to withdraw the case saying that it could only be done after completing the police investigation. Later the agitated members staged a walk-out.

SP leader Md Azam Khan said it was unfortunate that the woman MLA has been booked under Section 7 Criminal Law Act, meant for hardcore criminals, for holding demonstration on November 14.

They said, MLA Sadab Fatima, has alleged that she along with other party workers were booked under the 7 criminal law Act for blocking the road under Nanohara police station in Ghazipur district.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma said withdrawal of the case could only be done after proper investigation.

However, Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar directed the government not to intiate action against the MLA till the investigation was completed.

Joining the SP members, BJP and Congress members too accused the police officials of harassing the woman MLA and demanded a privielege motion against the erring officials who had lodged case against her.
