Srinagar, Dec 6 (UNI) A senior leader of the National Conference (NC), main opposition party in the Jammu and Kashmir, survived a bid on his life when militants attacked his house with automatic weapons and hand grenades last night.

In other militancy-related incidents, troops busted a hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in the frontier district of Kupwara.

The guards posted there also retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for some time. However, Mr Khanday and his other family members escaped unhurt in the attack, they said, adding the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

They said troops of 17 Dogra during a search operation unearthed a hideout at village Dardsun in the frontier district of Kupwara.

The arms and ammunition recovered from the hideout included two AK rifles, six magazines, 300 AK rounds, eight grenades and two wireless sets.
