Disburse compensation to kin of 1984 riot victims soon: Mayawati

Lucknow, Dec 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today ordered immediate disbursal of compensation to the 1984 riot- affected Sikh families.

The has directed the officials concerned to dispose of the applications of the eligible affected families within a month by initiating a drive.

Besides, she asked for the completion of all the necessary procedural formalities.

''As many as 1,000 families would be its beneficiaries,'' state principal secretary (chief minister) Shailesh Krishna said, while addressing media here.

Earlier in the day chief secretary P K Mishra reviewed the progress of the compensation for the 1984 riots.
